In-Office Teeth Whitening Reveals Results Quickly
Teeth gradually lose their luster as the years go by. Exposure to highly-pigmented foods and beverages (like wine, dark chocolate, and ripe berries), tobacco, imperfect dental hygiene, and even the use of certain medications can all take away from your naturally white smile. Genetics play a role, too -- some people were just born with brighter smiles than others.
One of our most popular procedures, in-office BOOST Whitening brightens stained or yellow teeth in just an hour and a half appointment at Dentistry @ 1881. One-visit teeth whitening is an excellent option for people who are looking to rejuvenate their smiles in preparation for an upcoming event, or simply for patients who value efficiency and fast results.
To whiten your teeth using the BOOST system, Dr. Tamo applies a high-powered gel to the front surface of each of the teeth that show when you smile. The lips, tongue, cheeks, and other soft tissues are covered with a protective layer beforehand. The whitening formula is evenly applied for three 20 minute intervals.
Let your dentist know if you experience any sensitivity throughout the treatment. It is a good idea to brush your teeth with a sensitivity protection toothpaste in the weeks leading up to BOOST Whitening, during treatment and afterwards.
By maintaining good dental hygiene and avoiding the foods and beverages that cause the enamel to become discolored, your whitening results can last for years. Use the BOOST touch-up kit as needed to enjoy your bright white smile for longer.
At-Home Teeth Whitening for Gradual Results
Patients who prefer to reveal their whiter results gradually often choose the custom-fitted take-home whitening kits. Because of its slower approach, take-home whitening is also an excellent choice for people who are prone to extreme tooth sensitivity.
To whiten with a take-home kit, you simply fill your trays with the professional-strength whitening gel and wear them as directed at night or in the morning. The trays are created from impressions of your mouth ensuring an intimate fit and so saliva does not interfere with the effectiveness of the bleaching gel. You will begin to notice results after the very first use, but continue wearing the trays for the maximum whitening. After about two weeks, the treatment is complete.
Porcelain Veneers Correct Multiple Imperfections
Dental veneers provide something of a smile do-over for people who need more help improving the appearance of their smiles than simple whitening can provide. Thin coverings made of dental porcelain, veneers correct the size, shape, and overall visual effect of the teeth that show when you smile. Porcelain is one of the most natural-looking material for dental veneers.
Porcelain veneers can correct…
- Slight gaps between the teeth
- Severely stained or discolored teeth
- Uneven, oddly shaped, or crooked teeth
- Broken or chipped teeth
At Dentistry @ 1881, porcelain veneers are completed over the course of two visits to our office. Local anesthesia is available for your complete comfort at each step of the veneer procedure.
The first appointment is reserved for treatment planning and preparation of your teeth. It is a minimally-invasive procedure that requires the removal of a small amount of tooth enamel to make room for each veneer to lie flat within the smile. Temporary veneers cover the prepared teeth in the time between appointments.
During the second appointment, your lab fabricated veneers manufactured in a separate lab are ready for placement. After removing your temporary veneers, your dentist will check to make sure your new veneers look just like they should. Each veneer is securely placed onto the surface of the tooth with a special bonding agent.
When cared for properly, porcelain veneers can be expected to last for a decade or more. Protect the dental porcelain with a mouthguard for nighttime teeth grinding or during contact sports. Continue to brush and floss the teeth as directed for healthy teeth and gums.
Composite Veneers Offer a More Affordable Alternative
Patients interested in a more affordable alternative to porcelain veneers may prefer composite veneers. Using tooth-colored composite resin, your dentist sculpts a new shape and appearance for damaged teeth. Composite veneers correct the same issues as porcelain veneers, but are non-invasive, completely pain free, and usually completed in just one visit to the dentist’s office.
While faster and more affordable than porcelain veneers, composite resin does not reflect light in the same manner as your natural tooth enamel. The porous material is also more likely to absorb stains from foods, beverages, tobacco, and poor dental hygiene. Patients should be careful to avoid the things that may cause their veneers to lose their pleasing shade. Regular upkeep and maintenance is essential.
